Before I start telling you what you should do to become a better author, allow me to tell you a story about my latest book project first, and why what I am going to say is really important. A writer should have an editorial eye, so that sixth sense, that expertise to create that story, article, or book as error-free as possible before submitting to any writer.
It requires more than once, more than double, even more than ten occasions sometimes to produce a manuscript that’s one hundred percent free from mistakes, typos, misspelled words, and unfinished paragraphs or sentences.
Recently I Had a Book Printed.
I composed it, rewrote it three times, edited and revised it at least twice, along with the publisher hired an editor to revise and edit it, and then she returned it to me for further proofing before going to press with it one final time.
I nearly lost my publishing contract because I not only proofed it rewrote two chapters in their entirety and added a few pages to it in certain phases text to speech online free unlimited by PC Tattletale. I edited it to the best of my skill and expected that it would get one last proofing prior to going to press. Seconds after, both my personal and professional experience as a reader and writer sent shivers up my spine in the first chapter when typos started cropping up.
Where did that come from?
Why wasn’t it fixed? Looking back over my last corrected proof, the corrections were made on this conclusion but seemingly, the editor and the writer overlooked them once I delivered the final copy.
This partly my fault. I saw mistakes on the website of the writer before submitting my manuscript. Red flags soared in my head. It was not only my duty to have a manuscript that was next to ideal but my obligation to do research on the writer as well. My novel as a whole is very great (toot my horn!) .
However, the mistakes inside it made me take a second look as I was reading and made me want to put it down. The response of my readers will be: why wasn’t this book edited until it went to print? Why not the writer proof it better?
Having said this, what’s worse, it will be on the market for five years prior to rights revert to me personally. I can not mend it for five years. Losing a contract isn’t quite as poor as discrediting your writing ability and qualifications.
A writer needs to have an editorial eye, or a sixth sense to discover writing errors in their own manuscript. Editors may discover most of it but those working under deadline and utter pressure may not have the time to perform their job efficiently.
I can tell you one easy fact if you want to be a writer: when you write, be certain you edit and edit before filing. The old adage that you may write something to departure could possibly be authentic but the truth that mistakes can ruin your manuscript is much truer. That’s the best bit of writing advice you may get all day.
